The crash was reported at 6:01 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, along Highway 74 between Olson and Melba avenues, about four blocks east of the Homeland post office.

The collision involved a tow truck, an SUV and a car, according to preliminary reports.

All of the victims escaped the burning vehicles, according to preliminary reports. But one person was critically burned, prompting fire officials to summon a medical evacuation helicopter.
Ambulances took five other people to the hospital, fire officials said in a written statement. One of those patients suffered serious injuries, and the four others were described as having moderate injuries.

At 6:27 p.m., a SigAlert was issued because all traffic lanes were expected to be closed for at least another hour. The highway is the main link between I-215 and Hemet, though side streets were used as a detour.
