Before that, English used the related word ‘task’, derived from Old French. For a while, ‘task’ and ‘tax’ were both in common use, the first requiring labour, the second money.

A written language made of wedges. Artwork used circles. To draw the conclusion it was superstition that kept the circle out of their writing, puts the burden of proof on to my speculation. The world you move through is real to you. Proof is not a prerequisite to breathing.
