In downtown Riverside

There are statues memorializing historic figures.  Dr. King, Cesar Chavez,  An Chang-ho.  The larger than life statues with their fixed gaze ignoring the street people.  A few who seemed very willing to interact with passersby.  One fell asleep next to a Styrofoam food container, his vomit, and two empty alcohol bottles, in front of a fancy restaurant. The others seemed to have physical disabilities.  Street people have always gravitated to this area from what I remember.  I have a cautious uneasiness around street people.  A few seem fragile.  Intermixed with mobile and predatory individuals that play the game well.  I do wonder if there is an effect in the situation.  Ignoring it (them) doesn't change anything.  Trying to help seems to create a bigger need.  I suppose it is a difficult task for each of us to know our limits and our potential, and end up doing what we do.
