If they want kids to become critical thinkers, forget using math. Try showing them all the deceptive ways that the marketing industry uses their emotions to overpower their brains and compel them to make stupid decisions in their lives, for the purposes of someone else. Try getting them to see how they will never learn the value of sacrifice while being constantly told they deserve to indulge. Try making them into responsible citizens rather than the next round of consumers. They learn plenty of math along the way.
