Update with details about shooting and those injured
A late night fight between members of different gangs near a Hemet apartment complex left three people injured Wednesday, March 9, authorities said.
Police say they arrived to an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Yale Street about 11:39 p.m. and found a woman with a broken hip and two people with gunshot-related wounds.
The woman whose hip was broken had reportedly jumped from the second story window of an apartment after hearing the sound of gunfire.
A man found in the complex's courtyard area had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his hip and groin areas, and a minor found outside the complex suffered a laceration to her arm from being grazed by a bullet, police say.
All three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment, according to a Hemet police news release.
Police say gunfire erupted after a verbal dispute between members of either two or three different gangs.
Witnesses say the alleged gang members had been arguing on and off throughout the day, the release says.
Another person who could have been involved in the dispute reportedly arrived to the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital emergency room around 2:30 a.m. Thursday with a gunshot wound to his shoulder, according to the release.
Hemet police officers asked that the person be held until they could arrive to the hospital and question him, the release says, but that person had fled the hospital before they arrived.
Hemet police detectives are still investigating the shooting and are asking that anyone who might have seen what happened, or who has information, contact Cpl Gabe Gomez at 951-765-7329.
