Pa. vendor confirms link to Target data probe
PITTSBURGH — Minneapolis-based Target isn't commenting on reports that a Pittsburgh-area heating and refrigeration company is being investigated as the possible portal through which computer hackers stole credit card numbers from 40 million of the store's customers.
Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder says the 1,800-store chain isn't commenting because the investigation is ongoing.
Fazio Mechanical Services Inc., of Sharpsburg, has issued a statement saying it was the victim of a "sophisticated cyberattack operation" that is linked to the U.S. Secret Service investigation of the Target data breach.
Internet security bloggers identified the company as the third-party vendor through which hackers accessed Target's customer information. Target had previously told reporters the store believed hackers accessed customer information through a vendor's computer system.

CHICAGO: school officials want a kinder gentler sign
They don't want the red circle with a red line across an image of a gun. They think it conveys the wrong message. They want a peace sign, flowers, puppies and kittens with the gentle reminder "Love is the answer"
They are going to promote this by giving a multiple choice test. The test will include Love as an option for each question. A sample question:
1000 x 1 =
A. 1
B. 1000
C. all of the above
D. none of the above
E. Love
Whoever gets 100% will be honored at a Pep Rally.

Art Bin Yarn Drum (with a rimshot)
I'm happy this yarn storage container is constructed well. The zipper has two sliders, and the fabric is sturdy and the seams are strong. The shoulder strap is adjustable and wide. The top handle flexible. The yarn dispensing slits on the lid are soft, flexible, and reinforced.

NORCO: Festival of Films to debut
JANUARY 30, 2014 BY PETER FISCHETTI

January has been a rough month for Robert Redford.
He seemed a cinch to receive an Oscar nomination for best actor for his critically acclaimed performance in “All Is Lost.” Alas, he was snubbed.
Then came word that the Sundance Film Festival, which he started 30 years ago and draws top Hollywood stars to Park City, Utah, each January, might be in trouble.
That’s because another film festival, opening a week after his closed, could attract the A-list celebrities who’d rather not travel 700 miles to shiver in the cold.
After all, it’s only 60 miles from Beverly Hills to Norco.

THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE: Tell me what you think about our newspaper
We hear you friends. Drop us a line. Let’s start the conversation.
Reach Michael Coronado at mcoronado@pe.com or 951-368-9413
Every 10 years or so The Press Enterprise solicits the public for it's opinion. Years ago I sent my information and was invited to a meeting with 20+ citizens and several top Press Enterprise employees.
What the Press Enterprise really really wanted to know is:
How do we remain relevant in the modern world.
How do we get the next generation interested in subscribing to the newspaper.
How do we maintain a balance of keeping seniors informed but not becoming too modernistic.
Why I went to the meeting:
I am fascinated by human communication.
I thought journalists would be interesting to brainstorm with.
I was invited.
The challenges facing print media can't be solved by soliciting public opinion. Public opinion is the challenge. For the newspaper and the public. I talk to people I don't know when I go shopping. Most people have a keen sense decency. How come it is only apparent in verbal communication. The written word, and (the television) have lost the extra dimension. Why? In my opinion...I think I will keep my opinion to myself, since it might create new opinions and we can have none of that.

Bobby Trendy calls it a 'waste of fashion'
"In modern society girls get dressed up go to a club and end up fighting on the sidewalk like a bunch of dudes. What a waste of fashion. If someone looks better than you don't kill them with a kick to the head, go shopping and buy a new outfit instead."

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony ***Re-posted from April 16, 2007***
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new signal at Leon Rd and Hwy 74 took place on Monday April 16, 2007. I was honored to introduce our 5th District Supervisor Marion Ashley. Mr. Ashley began by Thanking the community. He then introduced Brenda Salas his legislative assistant, also she is the Mayor of Banning. Also in attendance were Luana Roth, Sy Dowling, Hugh Smith, and Dick Syson. Each were instrumental in the completion of this traffic signal. The Harvest Valley Community Council attended, and a representative from Highland Palms We were glad they took the time to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony. Mr. Ashley said this traffic signal plan had began before he took office, after several set backs he made it a County of Riverside project in order to get it completed. He noted this was a dangerous intersection. He also spoke about this traffic signal as the first of a series of projects coming soon to Harvest Valley. The signal at Sultanas will be installed by the developer of a new housing development. He pointed out the sensor the fire department uses to activate the light controls en route to emergencies. The transportation department will be monitoring the traffic flow at the High School once the new school opens in the Fall of 2007. The Romoland curve will be improved along with that corner getting a new 6 acre park, including a soccer field, and half court Basketball courts. As the new shopping centers are built along the Hwy 74 the traffic will be monitored and improvements made to keep the flow of traffic smooth. A 12 acre park is going in next to Harvest Valley School, along with a community center, gym, meeting rooms, kitchen and new club house for Harvest Valley. The ribbon was cut to dedicate the our new traffic signal. We attracted a lot of attention from the passing traffic with horns honking partly to get our attention to people waving at us, and also to get cars moving that had stopped to get a better look at what we were doing. I snapped a few pictures and just couldn't resist taking a picture of the ceremonial scissor box that the giant cutters are formally carried in.
Traffic Signal at Hwy 74 and Leon Rd.
The traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy 74 and Leon Rd was
determined warranted. The signal will improve traffic safety at the
intersection. As part of the improvement, the main driveway at the
Royal Palm Estates will be restricted to right-in and right-out only to
reduce vehicular conflicts and improve safety. Residents can exit Leon
onto Hwy 74 with a green light after the traffic signal is completed.
Left turn traffic on Hwy 74 onto Leon will have a green arrow.
The traffic signal is funded entirely by the County of Riverside with
the support of Supervisor Ashley using Development Impact Funds for
traffic signal mitigation. The cost of the project is approx.
$700,000.
The Riverside County Transportation Department is the lead agency. The
project was reviewed and approved by the Californian State Department of
Transportation since Hwy 74 is a state highway and is under Caltrans
jurisdiction. The project is being constructed under a state
encroachment permit by a contractor retained by the County with Caltrans
oversight. The date of completion of the project will be confirmed once
power is provided by SCE. After the project is completed, Caltrans will
operate and maintain the signal.
